Similar to the Akoya Russian Crucifix Rosary, but with smaller pearls all sterling and pink spinels. Spinel accents can be substituted for other birthstones.

With pearls you have to be very careful with grading and authenticity. Pearls are graded by a sum of their grades for nacre, luster and surface texture. Their value comes from their difficulty to grow. One mussel can contain 50 freshwater pearls at the same time and they can be grown practically anywhere and take 2-6 years to grow. An Akoya (Akoya is the Japanese word for Saltwater) pearl takes 6-18 months to grow. The longer they are left to grow, the better the quality. There is only 1 pearl per oyster and are grown in Japan and China. South Sea pearls are quite difficult to grow, have exceptional quality and grow between 11mm-20mm in size. They are very expensive and come in silver and golden. Tahitian pearls are only grown in the Polynesian waters and other nearby Pacific Islands. They are very sensitive to fluctuations in the environment and very difficult to grow. They were almost made instinct from over harvesting in the late 19th century and have now been carefully regulated and their population is back up.
